As a result of the Corona pandemic, professional work has been extensively digitized in a short period of time. This results in an immense analytical potential for dealing with theoretical and practical questions concerning the digitization of professional work. My project at CAIS focuses on these aspects. I examine how professional work was digitized at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and look at the further development of its digitization until spring 2021. Theoretically, I characterize this process as “highly dynamic mediatization”. Methodologically, I will conduct qualitative interviews with education providers, sports trainers, and social workers – thus profession that were only slightly digitized before the pandemic. The interviews will focus on the practice of digital work in everyday life as well as on the importance of media technologies, infrastructures and media skills in order to develop practical advice for the digitization of such professional fields beyond the pandemic.
