Digital Libraries for Malawi

Digitalization is changing how we learn and teach ourselves. Not only Europe and Germany should benefit from these opportunities, but also Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. The aim of our project is to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization, and to improve and expand access to education at (initially) three Malawian schools. No cost-intensive technical equipment is required for this, with our project relying instead on small computers. School classes in Malawi will be equipped with this simple, energy-efficient and inexpensive technology. They will then be provided with so-called Digital Libraries (digital encyclopaedias, e-books, learning videos, and learning programmes), which pupils can use despite the lack of an Internet connection to continue their education offline. A comprehensive pedagogical concept developed in close contact with the teachers on the ground will integrate the Digital Libraries into daily lessons at school.

In addition, we will also carry out an exploratory evaluation to develop the project further and to extend it beyond the pilot schools.
