PhDnet@CAIS. Intensive course “Data visualizations”
Visualizations help to discern patterns in data and to present correlations in a comprehensible way, and are therefore an important communication tool in science, public relations and journalism. But there are rules when using them, since otherwise graphics can easily distort or completely misrepresent statements. In this intensive course, you will learn what types of graphics there are, what purposes they are suitable for, and what you need to pay attention to when presenting and interpreting data.
The workshop leader, Marie-Louise Timcke, is a data journalist and heads the “Interactive” department at Funke Mediengruppe. Together with an interdisciplinary team of developers, designers and journalists, she uses new research methods and visual narrative forms. From her studies in data journalism at the University of Dortmund, she founded Journocode, where she now works as managing director and trainer.
