PhDnet@CAIS. Digital methods workshop 1: Data collection
PhDnet@CAIS is launching a workshop series on digital methods for doctoral students in the humanities, the focus being on the presentation and practical application of tools for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing research data. Participants will discuss the possibilities and limits of different methods, and their own experiences with such methods.
The first workshop will focus on data collection. As an introduction, Dr. Johannes N. Blumenberg (GESIS) will give an overview of the field: What are digital methods for scholars in the humanities? How can they be systematized? What are their possibilities and limits?
In the afternoon, Patrick Nehls MA (Digitale Gesellschaft NRW) will present tools for collecting data, with participants having the chance to try these out. The focus here will be on collecting data from social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), from websites, and with the help of online survey methods.
Participants are requested to bring their own notebook to the workshops.
